Will Oxon County Council vote to oppose the Ox-Cam Expressway?
Councillor John Sanders has proposed a motion on the Oxford-Cambridge Expressway which will be debated at 5th November County Council meeting.
Will the Council once again vote along party lines and play an, ill thought through, waiting game? Let’s hope they see sense… you CAN’T commit to zero carbon targets and support building a new road whilst doubling the counties housing stock! It’s not rocket science! Build the rail link. Stop the expressway.
Councillor Sander’s motion is as follows:
“Given the inadequate response from the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government to the concern of this Council regarding the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway, this Council asks the Leader to write to the Minister of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Highways England in the following terms:
Oxfordshire County Council will work with Highways England on the development of the vision for the English Economic Heartland and the Oxford to Cambridge Arc on the understanding that they will expedite the realisation of the East West Rail Link.
The development of the railway line will ensure the delivery of the growth and housing required, without the environmental impact of a road cutting across the centre of rural England.
Building the Expressway flies in the face of Oxfordshire’s commitment to reduce the use of the car. An action which is necessary to tackle the Climate Change Emergency, which Local Government, including Oxfordshire, has signed up to.
Oxfordshire does not support the building of the Expressway irrespective of which route is chosen.”

No Expressway Group believes there is no need for an Oxford-Cambridge Expressway, nor the over-inflated housing targets associated with it, and we will actively campaign against it and support other organisations with the same objectives.
Our environment is a national asset which is critical for everyone’s health and well-being. We must not let it be destroyed.

A greater or other amount could contribute to the cost of professional support for our campaign in general and in preparation for Planning Inspectorate hearings

If any funds are left at the end of the campaign, these will be donated equally between RSPB and BBOWT.
